Prenatal Vitamins in Tablets or Liquid Form - What's the Difference?

If you think of dietary supplements for pregnancy or breastfeeding today, the usual pregnancy vitamins from the pharmacy or drugstore in tablet or capsule form immediately come to mind.

Personally, however, I have not had good experiences with it during my pregnancies. Due to my very pronounced morning sickness - which usually lasted all day - I found it very difficult to swallow the sometimes very large capsules. If I then swallowed them down with a lot of liquid, I usually felt even worse in the following hour because the tablets were so heavy in my stomach.

There is a much more pleasant alternative to taking vitamins and minerals, namely in liquid form.

What are the advantages of vitamins in liquid form?
The body absorbs liquid vitamins better than in the form of capsules or tablets. These must first dissolve before the ingredients they contain become available to the body. For a variety of reasons, such as age, medication use, pH levels, and functional changes (surgery), the body's digestive system may not completely (or in some cases not at all) break down vitamin tablets or capsules into usable material. Conversely, vitamins in liquid or powder form do not require this step and can therefore lead to faster absorption in the body*. Medical studies have shown that vitamins taken in liquid form enter the bloodstream much faster than tablets and capsules. This happens because liquid supplements completely skip the digestive process. They need about 1 - 4 minutes to be fully absorbed by the body, while tablets and capsules need 20-30 minutes to be broken down and then used. A great alternative for anyone who has trouble swallowing pills or suffers from severe morning sickness.

Additionally, according to research by the Physicians Desk Reference, the body can utilize 98% of the vitamins and minerals contained in liquid form, but can only absorb 10-20% of the vitamins in a vitamin capsule.

You would have to swallow five times as many tablets to have the same effect as when taking liquid vitamins in the same concentration.
